Chancellor Edwin Cameron, long hailed as a hero in South Africa and globally for his activism on behalf of racial equality and LGBTQ legal rights, speaks out about a crisis in Oxford University. Magdalen College President Dinah Rose QC continues to represent the Cayman Islands in its fight to invalidate same sex marriage. This representation conflicts, many argue, with her obligation as Master of Magdalen College to create a nurturing, safe environment for all students, including those in the lgbtq community. Chancellor Cameron argues powerfully that the harms this representation creates on campus should lead Dinah Rose either to recuse herself from her case against same sex marriage equality, or else to step aside as Master of that historic institution.
